Dr. Paul McEntire

Dr. McEntire is the Chairman of Palo Alto Advisors, Inc., a registered investment management firm located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Palo Alto Advisors specializes in managing stock portfolios. He has managed hedge funds, founded two mutual funds, and was portfolio manager for a Morningstar Five-Star technology mutual fund. Previously, he was the CEO of Optimization Technology, a Department Manager at Systems Control, Inc. and worked on the Apollo Program at TRW Systems Group.
At Stanford, he has taught short courses on The Financial Crisis, US Securities Markets, Risk Management, and the US economy. He has also lectured and given short courses at UC Berkeley, in Sweden, Japan, Switzerland. Bermuda and at many universities in China. He has visited China twenty times since 1986. In 2008, he spent seven weeks as a visiting professor in the Graduate School of Finance at Renmin University. He has also contributed a monthly column entitled “Wander Wall Street” for Caijing Magazine, Beijing. He has TV appearances on CNBC Business Center, CNNfn and Bloomberg, and press coverage in the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Forbes, Business Week, the NY Times, Fortune, CNNfn.com, TheStreet.com, and Yahoo! Finance Vision. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics (Phi Beta Kappa) and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Engineering-Economic Systems, all from Stanford University. He is a member of the Stanford Faculty Club, the American Finance Association and the Mathematical Association of America. He has written many articles and edited books on distributed computing and investments.
